Chinese Research Team Achieves Major Breakthrough in the Development of New Antimicrobial Peptides
Hits: 403 Time: 2025.10.11

Recently, a top domestic biomedical research team announced a landmark major breakthrough in the development of new antimicrobial peptides. After five years of dedicated research, the team has successfully developed an antimicrobial peptide with a brand-new amino acid sequence. Its antibacterial activity is more than three times higher than that of traditional antimicrobial peptides, and it has extremely low toxicity to normal human cells, solving the two core problems of "weak antibacterial effect" and "high cytotoxicity" of traditional antimicrobial peptides in the application process.

According to the team leader, this new type of antimicrobial peptide can quickly destroy the structural integrity of bacteria by acting precisely on the bacterial cell membrane, thereby achieving efficient sterilization. In experiments targeting multi-drug resistant bacteria, the antimicrobial peptide has shown excellent inhibitory effects on a variety of clinically common drug-resistant strains such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), with a bacteriostatic rate of over 98%. At present, the relevant research results have been published in the international top journal Nature Biotechnology, and the team has applied for a number of national invention patents. In the follow-up, it will accelerate the preclinical research, and is expected to be applied in the treatment of clinical infectious diseases in the next 3-5 years, providing a new solution to the increasingly severe global problem of antibiotic resistance.
